Maybe you’ve heard of follicular unit grafts. Could they be the answer to restoring your hair like you’ve been wanting to for some time now? Are they a better alternative compared to drugs and other methods? And how much do they cost? In this article I’ll take a critical eye to this method to see if it is worthwhile.
The Follicular Unit
If you look at the hairs anywhere on your body and look really close then you’ll discover that your hairs are not actually evenly dispersed.
If you look closely then you can see that several hairs emerge from the same spot. This is because hair actually grows in what are called “follicular units” of between one and four hairs at a time. So what is a follicular unit graft then?
Transplantation
It is basically a transplantation of your hair. No longer are men having hair plugs inserted – these days your existing hair can be transplanted.
Most men lose hair in a pattern, hence the term “male pattern baldness”. Hair is lost from the front and on top and last of all from the back. So the follicle units from the back of your hair can be transplanted to the front to move forward your hairline.
The Result
The problem with this type of surgery is that it involves small incisions to put the units into. A bit like parting some soil to throw some seeds into. This can also lead to dimpling, pigmentation changes and a shiny looking scalp. Basically, do not expect miracles and for your hairline to look like it did originally.
Also, surgeons freely admit that this is not a cure. It does not actually cure your hair loss or regrow your hair (like drugs and natural cures can do) and further transplant procedures may be necessary.
How much is it? About 10,000 US Dollars, give or take a few thousand depending on your hair type.
Why fork out thousands of dollars or take debilitating drugs when there are natural cures that cost a few bucks and can both stop your hair loss and regrow hair from your dormant follicles (bald patches). Discover the better way to cure your hair loss here: Hair Loss Conquered.
